As we welcome Fr. Bill in July, we will be providing name tags in the Narthex. We invite you to write your name on a tag with the provided pens as you arrive and wear it to Mass so that Fr. Bill can start matching names to faces. It will be a great way to welcome him with our wonderful St. John the Baptist hospitality!
Registration for Faith Formation
Registration is open now for St. John the Baptist Pre-K, Elementary, Youth, and High School Faith Formation! We will be taking note of what is happening in our local school districts as we prepare to return to the McMullen Center for faith formation classes. As always, volunteers are needed to help shepherd our children through the program, please let us know if you are willing to volunteer. We provide training and support throughout the program. Also, while we must charge a fee for materials, no child is turned away from faith formation if the family is unable to pay; arrangements are available.

May 30, 2021
Congratulations to the twenty- four young people who are to be Confirmed this Tuesday evening by Archbishop Etienne. May they indeed be filled with the gifts of the Holy Spirit in whatever vocation they find themselves. May the Lord bless them in every way.
I am thankful for the Spirit leading me in my life as a priest. Last Monday (May 24) I celebrated my forty sixth anniversary in the priesthood. That has consisted of five parishes, three of which I have been a pastor. As I approach my last month as an active priest, I give our gracious God thanks for all you have done for me these past nineteen years as your pastor. You are the best. May the Lord bless all of you. I love you.
A Letter from Father Bill
I look forward to joining the community of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church this July. I am currently on a four-month sabbatical in the southern Arizona desert. Then main part of this time away is an extensive contemplative retreat which focuses on becoming more aware of the presence of God in creation, in self, and in others. I will be returning to the Northwest by the beginning of June to begin the transition of leaving St. Vincent de Paul Parish in Federal Way where I have been the past thirteen years and starting July first at your parish in Covington. I am excited to discover how God is present among you, especially as you “Gather in God’s name, grow in God’s time, and go in God’s Spirit.”
Fr. Jim Coyne has done an amazing job these past nineteen years serving as your pastor. Even in spite of Covid, I hope you find ways to express your gratitude for his ministry as he now enters senior status in his priestly vocation. It is a blessing to know he will still be a part of the community in his retirement. Covid may make transitions a bit more challenging as I seek ways to get to know you and the parish community. I ask for your patience and your prayer. I look forward to serving with your spectacular staff, supporting so many of your parishioners engaged in ministry and being with each of you called to be God’s presence in your home and neighborhood.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Bill McKee
Olivewood Carvings for Sale after Masses
We will have olive wood carvings available to purchase after all Masses this weekend. The proceeds support Christian Catholic families in the Holy Land since it is the major source of income for them there. Our friend Jiryis obtains his wares from more than 80 families in Bethlehem. There are very beautiful and unique items available - nativities, crucifixes, rosaries, and statues.
The Christian population of the Holy Land has dropped from 22% to less than 2% in the past two decades. This is a way to support those who remain.
Thank you for your help. Jiryis
We Did It!
We have achieved our goal of raising over $113,000 for the Catholic Church in Western Washington! Thank you, thank you every one! Any amount you send over and above the goal will now be sent back to us to fund our lavatory project. The Annual Catholic Appeal reaches out to individual Catholics in all parishes to ask for their support for the ministries of the Archdiocese. Ministries that are Archdiocesan-wide include jail ministry, ministry to seafarers, mental health ministry, and grief ministry. In this 9 minute video, Joe Cotton and Erica Cohen-Moore talk a bit more about those ministries.
