Dear Faith Formation Families,
I hope all is well with you and your loved ones. Hoping you are finding ways to stay comfortable during this hot spell, and to play together as family! May God continue to help us all as we continue to navigate this pandemic! I am writing to give you the plan of action for Faith Formation this year.
For the sake of safety and along with the local School Districts, we will begin the year with an at home program supported by virtual aids for our families. These are the four pillars in our methodology this year:
- Every student will have a hard copy text of the lessons. The text that we are using (Pflaum for PK-8th grades, and the Catholic Youth Handbook for 9th-12 grades). Each of these are very user friendly for the students to work with.
- Each publishing company has online support with a variety of tools for parents to enhance the learning process for their children.
- St. John’s staff and catechists will provide additional video support for parents and students via our Vimeo library accessible from our website. We will also continue our virtual FF Newsletter for the year!
- St. John’s staff and catechists will provide a monthly platform for families/children/youth/teens to connect for relational ministry. We will be intentional about staying connected to one another!
As the year goes on we will find that there is transition in how groups gather for education. We will likely see that happen with Faith Formation at St. John’s as well. Know that we are here to help your family form your children in the way that is best for you, you just need to let us know. We will always seek abundant caution for safety for our parishioners.
We will continue to provide preparation for Sacraments. We prepare each student over a two year period, making sure the first year is a foundational community building year, the second year has the deep Sacramental formation, after which the Sacraments will be celebrated! Make sure to check the box for the Sacraments that you would like your children to be prepared for. These students must also be participating in the age appropriate FF program as well.
We will put together packets specific to your family, distributing them throughout the year. You would swing by the church to pick those materials up.
You will notice that this year we have lowered the registration fee ($20 per students PK-8) as we will simply have family pay for the texts that their students will be using. 9th-12th grade students will receive a ‘checked-out’ text that they use, returning the books at the end of the school year. Feel free to register via email, US mail, or dropping your form and check by the office (Mon-Sat. 10am-3pm).
Download 2020-21 FF Registration Form from here. Please fill it out and return it as soon as possible, then we can order the materials!
We are looking forward to working with you as we continue the journey of Faith Formation! As always, we encourage you to continue to celebrate mass as a family either in person or virtually via our website. Other ways to stay connected are through our Parish Wide Zoom gatherings, St. John’s facebook page, our website, and the bulletin that is sent (email/US mail) weekly.
