To help us commemorate our 30th anniversary, Fr. Jim would like to share the book, Our One Great Act of Fidelity: Waiting for Christ in the Eucharist with our parish households.
This wonderful book offers each of us an opportunity to reflect more deeply on the gift of Eucharist. In it, Father Ron Rolheiser explores the many ways we understand the Eucharist and why participation in this sacrament is so central to our faith. He helps us understand the incarnational nature of our faith, and how it is that we "become what we receive." We hope it will be a source of nourishment as we look forward to the time past our pandemic when we can all gather together for our Sunday liturgies.
Books can be found on tables in the narthex and also in the parish office.
St. John the Baptist was established in 1991 and started its ministry meeting at Horizon Elementary School. The dedication of St. John the Baptist church building on January 13-14, 1996 featured a beautiful patchwork quilt conceptualized, designed and quilted by 45 individuals and 20 families over 18 months. The corner blocks represent the Tree of Life. The five biblical blocks surrounding the center panel reflect the values of our parish community: Hosanna (prepare the way for Jesus), Job’s Tears (faithfulness during suffering); David and Goliath (strength in our faith); Carpenter’s Wheel (humble origins); and Heavenly Stars (our physical building reminds us of our heavenly church).
May we continue as a community to be the "Body of Christ!"
