Sprucing Up Our Church
You may notice a few facility projects going on.
We are sprucing up the restrooms in the church. This was the project for our 2021 Annual Catholic Appeal rebate. With the money received, we are able to redo the counter tops; get new sinks; and paint and replace some of the tilework. When a person moves into a new house, there is a house blessing with a prayer for each room. Many are a little surprised that even the bathroom gets a blessing. It goes something like, “Lord you gave us physical bodies to be the living temple of your Holy Spirit. Out of love for you, may we care for our bodies as living members of the Body of Christ.” There is a story told of Pope John the XXIII. Bathrooms are important.
The other project is adding a railing around our baptismal font. Our insurance company is requiring this. A few years ago, a visitor tripped and fell into the font. This resulted in an injury and a sizable insurance claim. We were reminded of this requirement in our last building inspection by the Archdiocese. The railing is designed to be removeable for the Easter Vigil and other times the font is used. Funding for this project comes from our capital reserve.

World Mission Sunday, October 23
In 1926 Pope Pius XI instituted Mission Sunday for the whole Church with the first worldwide Mission Sunday collection taking place in October 1927. The Mission Sunday collection is always taken on the next to last Sunday during the month of October. That day is celebrated in all the local Churches as the feast of catholicity and universal solidarity, so Christians the world over will recognize their common responsibility with regard to the evangelization of the world.
Our financial support enables the proclamation of the Gospel, the building of churches, and the work and witness of mission priests, sisters, and lay pastoral leaders. These missionaries provide food, education, and medical care to the most vulnerable communities throughout the world. Through their work, they reveal the compassionate heart of Jesus.
In addition to our partnership with these missionaries overseas, World Mission Sunday also calls us to see ourselves as missionaries, called to bring the Gospel to our corner of the world by the witness of our lives as well. The commission Jesus gave his disciples is given to us: “Go make disciples.”
