New Mass Setting Is Here!
What is a Mass setting?
The Mass setting contains the sung Mass parts such as the Gloria, the Gospel Alleluia, the Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy), the Great Amen, Lamb of God, etc. A Mass setting uses the same tune in the same key for each of the sung parts to give a sense of unity to the liturgy.
What is the new Mass setting we are going to sing?
The new Mass setting is the Mass of St. Mary Magdalene written by Sarah Hart. This will be the first time we feature a woman composer’s Mass setting at St. John’s.
Is there a way that I can listen to this new setting so I can begin to get familiar with it before we start singing it at Mass?
Yes, scroll down to view videos.
Can I get a copy of the song lyrics with the notes so I can follow the music as the notes go up and down when I sing along?
Yes, there will be printed handouts available of the complete Mass setting to help you sing along.
When will we start singing the Mass of St. Mary Magdalene at Mass?
We want each music group to feel comfortable leading the new setting, so start dates may vary at each Mass. The music groups will let me know when they are ready. We may start as early as September at one or two Masses.
This is exciting! Who can I contact if I have any questions?
Please contact Luis Diaz de Leon, St. John’s Music Ministry Coordinator, in the parish office. Email: luisd@sjtbcc.org or you can leave a voice mail message on Luis’ desk phone by calling 253-630-0701 Ext. 108.
