Youth Confirmation Year 1

Registration:
Registration is now OPEN for the 2024-25 Year 1 St. John Confirmation Preparation Program. The registration deadline is September 30th for each school year’s Confirmation preparation. Candidates registered after September 30th will be placed in the Year 1 Confirmation Preparation Program for the following school year.

Registration Requirements:
To register for Year 1, candidates need to submit a completed:

• Faith Formation Registration form (indicating that they are registering for Confirmation Year 1)
• Candidate & Sponsor Info form
• Copy of the candidate’s Baptismal certificate

Baptismal Certificate:
If the candidate was baptized at St. John, please indicate this on the Candidate & Sponsor Information form. If baptized elsewhere, provide a scan, copy, or photo of the Baptismal certificate. If you do not have a copy at home, you can contact the church where you were baptized, and they will send you one. Candidates are not fully registered until we have a copy on file. Please note that candidates who received their First Eucharist at St. John still need to provide a new copy of their Baptismal certificate. You can bring in a physical copy or email one to Peter Guthrie at the contact information below.

Choosing a Sponsor:

Confirmation candidates must have a Confirmation sponsor in place before registering for Year 1. Sponsors are required to attend all Year 1 Confirmation Prep meetings with their candidates, so local sponsors are encouraged. Sponsors must be confirmed Catholics who are practicing their faith and cannot be the candidate’s parents. Students often choose sponsors who are siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents, cousins, teachers, coaches, friends’ parents, youth ministers, or even friends. The Year 1 program focuses on developing a stronger relationship with your sponsor, so please share the following dates with them and ensure to complete and submit the Sponsor’s information on the Candidate & Sponsor Information form for full registration. Program Requirements:

• Candidates must regularly participate in their age group’s faith formation program at St. John or an equivalent school program (such as a Catholic school).
• Candidates must attend Mass weekly.
• Candidates must attend the following Confirmation Prep Session dates:
  • Oct 19
  • Nov 2
  • Jan 11
  • May 10 – with sponsor
  • June 7 – retreat
    All sessions are held in the McMullen Educational Center on the St. John the Baptist campus.
