There is nothing like having a second chance in life, especially for those who are suffering from a serious illness. In today’s gospel reading from Luke we have the familiar story of Jesus’ healing of the ten lepers. Can you imagine their joy in recognizing that they were restored to health and could now return to their families and communities? They had been isolated, perhaps for years. Now they were free! It was the lone Samaritan, a foreigner to the Jews, who returned to thank him. As we celebrate the sacrament of the sick at all the masses this weekend may we lift up in prayer and blessing all those who come forward to be anointed. May we thank our healing God for bringing them out of any isolation and fear into knowing they are not alone but are remembered by our community.
